Even with the eight inches of snowfall, Hannah's Socks made it to Toledo's downtown library to hand out socks, gloves, homemade knitted hats and scarves to the homeless.
My dad and I were not sure if anyone would be out, but we also thought that maybe they would come and be waiting. The people were there and wanted the socks, gloves and hats desperately. I was so glad that we decided to head Downtown. Michelle from Food For thought was there, and she told me that they only cancel the library handout if Toledo declares a level-3 snow emergency. At Hannah's Socks we focus our efforts on creating an impact locally, in the Northwest and Southwest Ohio communities we serve.
But every once in a while, we're able to leverage the generosity of our many wonderful supporters and volunteers to help neighbors in slightly more far-flung locales. Read more »
Special thanks to each and every one of you who helped us collect 47,123 pairs of socks in 2008! Your donations helped hundreds of people in the Northwest and Southwest Ohio communities we work so hard to serve.
For the shelters we partner with, socks and other clothing essentials are a 'renewable need' that knows no beginning or end, nor time of year. Just as with you and your family, socks and briefs simply wear out and need to be replaced regularly.
So for 2009, our official Sock Count resets to zero! Contact Us today and together we can make Hannah's Story touch even more hearts this year.
"Mommy, can you believe it?!?" No, Hannah, I can't! An amazing outpouring of generosity has taken place this week as visitor after visitor has stopped by the Hannah's Sock office (also known as our home) to drop off donations.
We are simply swimming in socks, and the sight is a complete joy to behold! Read more »
Last year Hannah asked if we could take socks to the homeless on Christmas morning. Vic and I called a family meeting with our 8 children and all 10 of us voted yes. We looked like Santas with our big bags of socks!
Some of the men asked if we had any thermal socks. We did, but not enough for everyone. Hannah promised the men at the shelter that next Christmas morning, she would bring everyone thermal socks. Read more »
The student council at Toth Elementary School in Perrysburg is sponsoring an Angel Tree to benefit Hannah's Socks!
Hannah was so excited for me to come into school to see the tree. Not only were there socks under the tree but socks were on the tree as well. Hannah was all excited and already started to count how many feet would be warm with these new socks!
Hannah is a student at Toth, which makes this collection extra-special to her.
Many schools have a collection going on this year. All you students and teachers are making a difference in the life of someone who needs to know we care.
Hannah and I are out at the Lucas County Library each Saturday morning passing out socks. Come join us if you can.
What a night! Buffalo Wild Wings went all out and threw an incredible birthday bash for Hannah. Hannah's only request was to please bring socks for the homeless in lieu of gifts.
Boy, did we ever get the socks! The place was packed and everyone was bringing in donations. The food and service was spectacular! Then around 6:30, Julie Powers from Comerica Treasury Management in Livonia, Michigan came in the door with 3 huge bags of socks 450 pairs in all!
Since our charity donates year-'round, the collections never end and we still have a long winter ahead of us. Read more »
While creating our budget for this year, we also set a conservative goal for the amount of socks that we hoped to collect.
I'm very happy to report that we've surpassed that goal 30,000 pairs by the end of 2008 thanks to the hard work of our many supporters!
While we should celebrate this achievement, it's vital we recognize just how important it is to keep this great momentum going. Read more »
